WEATHERED SHELF SNOWMAN©

Design by Batch of Pretties ‘2010’

Wood Supplies:   Cut the Snowman & Tree from 1“Pine and the Hat Brim out of ½“Plywood.   Finished project measures approx. 6½“x 10“tall.

SUPPLIES:

Palm Sander & 80 grit sandpaper
Wood Glue & Craft Glue
Cheesecloth or homespun material approx. 17“long for the scarf
Coffee ... Stain the material using instant or strong brewed coffee
Several winter twigs or skinny grapevine branches
A couple of 3/8“double-sided nails
Pieces of Winter Greenery
MINWAX Water-Based Colonial Pine Stain (use to antique after paint has dried)
Clear Acrylic Matte Spray

PAINT:

DECO ART AMERICANA (DA) & DELTA CERAMCOAT (DC)
TREE – EVERGREEN (DA)
SNOWMAN HEAD & LOWER BODY – ANTIQUE WHITE (DC)
CHEEKS (lightly dry brushed) – ROOKWOOD RED (DA)
NOSE – RED IRON OXIDE – (DC)
SNOWMAN’S COAT – ROOKWOOD RED (DA)
HAT & HAT BRIM, FACE FEATURES AND BUTTONS – BLACK (DC)

After paint has dried Sand around the edges of the wood pieces to reveal the color of the wood…you can also sand lightly over some of the other areas to make it look weathered (opt.)    THEN apply the stain or an antiquing medium over the pieces, wipe off excess, let dry, then spray with acrylic matte spray.

REFER to the finished photo for placement of the wood pieces and accessories.

ASSEMBLY & FINISHING:   Coffee stain the material, let dry, then take some craft glue watered down with a few drops of water and wet the material, then wrap around snowman’s neck going from front to back, then bring the ends back to the front and tie.  Before the glue in the scarf dries you can shape the material.   Cut off any excess.

Wood Glue the snowman to the tree & hat brim to the hat “let dry.”

Attach the winter branches to the tree using double sided nails or (you might be able to use hot glue).   Set the finished Snowman & Tree on a weathered piece of wood…place some winter greenery in front & around sides.

ENJOY!
